Overview

The GitHub integration connects prioritization in Productboard to delivery in GitHub Issues. Push features to GitHub as new issues and their status syncs back to Productboard in real time, so product and engineering work from the same list.

Push features to GitHub as issues

Send prioritized features and subfeatures to GitHub as new issues. Each issue includes a link back to its source Productboard feature, so developers can check the user context and business rationale behind the work.

Track delivery status in Productboard

An issue's open or closed status syncs back to Productboard in real time. You see delivery progress on the roadmap without asking engineering for updates.

Keep fields in sync

Feature names and descriptions sync to their GitHub issues automatically. Productboard tags can sync with GitHub labels too — you choose whether to enable that during setup.

Work across repositories

Create one integration per GitHub repository, each with its own task column in Productboard. Teams with several repos track each one's issues separately.

Setup

Productboard admins can add the integration, and a GitHub repository admin authorizes the connection on the GitHub side. The connection is push-only: features go from Productboard to GitHub, and existing GitHub issues can't be imported or linked to features. To import existing issues, use Zapier.

1. Go to Settings → Integrations → GitHub and click Add integration.
2. Click Authorize and complete the GitHub sign-in.
3. Select the GitHub repository from the dropdown.
4. Optionally enable Synchronize Productboard tags with GitHub labels, associate the integration with a product, and click Save.
